Description

The ASHI Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) program is a scenario (case-based) continuing education course intended for trained and skilled healthcare providers who either direct or participate in cardiopulmonary and resuscitation emergencies in children. Based on the official text of the program, PALS Study Guide, 4th Edition by Barbara J Aehlert RN BSPA, PALS provides students with an opportunity to enhance and refine their knowledge and hands-on skill proficiency in emergency cardiovascular care. This program confirms to the 2015 AHA Guidelines Update for CPR and ECC.

Prerequisites

All individuals who participate in a PALS class must be previously trained, skilled and be able to:

  • Perform high-quality pediatric basic life support (PBLS)
  • Read and interpret basic electrocardiograms (ECG)
  • Understand basic resuscitation pharmacology, prepare and administer essential medications

Performance Evaluation

Successfully complete five performance evaluations, three PBLS and two PALS:

  • High-quality infant BLS
  • High-quality child BLS
  • Bag mask ventilation
  • Respiratory or shock case management
  • Cardiac case management

CAPCE

Continuing educations (CE) hours for EMS professionals are available for ASHI PALS from Health & Safety Institute (HSI), a CAPCE accredited organization.
